50-50 Highlights: List of Lists of 50-50 Colleges

man with listSince last April I’ve been creating lists of 50-50 schools by various topics. There have been 31 topics generating 58 tables. The idea behind the lists is provide people with different ways of learning about schools they may have never heard of before with a minimum set of standards.

For those who aren’t familiar with 50-50 schools, the standards are that the schools must accept at least 49% of applicants and have a graduation rate of at least 49%. The four-year graduation rate is used for private schools and the five-year rate for public schools. I use 49 instead of 50 to provide a little wiggle room for year to year changes.

These lists are not based on a consistent methodology. This means that I don’t always take the top 30 schools or the top 10% of a list. The length of the list varies according to the topic so you really need to read the introduction for each list to see how I selected the schools.

Furthermore, the lists aren’t all based on the same cohort of 50-50 schools. Currently, the lists reflect two different years of 50-50 schools. So if a school you expected to appear on a list doesn’t appear, it may be because it wasn’t on the 50-50 list for the year when the list was created.

Given that the intent for these lists is to get people thinking about different schools, I don’t think the inconsistency should be a major concern. After all, they aren’t meant to be the definitive ranking of schools for the topic.

The following is the list of 50-50 lists sorted by general categories and alphabetically.?  As I add more tables, I’ll add them to the list here. You can get a PDF listing of all 50-50 schools here.
